Handover Should Not Depend On Trust Alone
Most scrap collections are friendly, ordinary jobs. Even so, a responsible handover should not rely only on "it is my car" said at the gate. ID checks at vehicle handover help make the collection clearer for the owner, collector and anyone who later asks what happened.
This matters more when the car has no keys, no V5C, old keeper details or a complicated family story. It also matters when the vehicle is being collected from a yard, shared drive or address that does not match the person arranging the pickup.
Have The Basics Ready
Prepare photo ID and address details before the truck arrives. Keep the V5C with you if it is available, along with the registration, any old paperwork and the agreed quote or collection message.
If the car is yours but stored at another address, explain that. If you are arranging collection for a parent, partner, business or estate, have a short note or confirmation ready. The clearer the situation, the less awkward the doorstep conversation becomes.
Do not bury the documents in the car if the car may not open. Keep them with the person who will meet the driver.
Explain Anything That Looks Unusual
Some situations deserve a sentence of explanation. A car at a relative's house, a vehicle left after a move, a van with old signwriting, a missing logbook or a locked car in a shared yard can all look less simple than an ordinary driveway pickup.

Match Proof With Access
Proof checks and access checks often happen together. If the car is boxed in, locked or on private land, the collector may need to know not only who can release it, but who can move other vehicles, open gates or authorise entry.
